How to Buy a New Refrigerator - Some Helpful Tips

Time for a new refrigerator? Well, you've come to the right place. Having been a Sears refrigerator salesperson, I know a few things about refrigerators and pointing out to customers what to look for in a new model. No time to chill! Let's get goin'!

1. Stick With The Name Brands. Kenmore and Whirlpool are the best. By the way, Kenmore is made by Whirlpool, so you can't go wrong. The Kenmore models are only available at Sears. The ability of both are great. Just check consumer Reports.

3 Door Refrigerator

2. Make Sure The Refrigerator Will Fit In Your Opening. Today's models are much larger than in the past. Before shopping for a new one, quantum the space for the new refrigerator. You don't want to get it home and find out that it's too big.

3. Size Matters. A typical, growing family of 4 will need a 25 cu.ft. Model. All the time get one a small larger than you think you need. We all know how swiftly they fill up with growing kids in the house. Just think of the Thanksgiving turkey, birthday cakes, 6 foot subs, etc.

4. Configuration. Do you want a side x side, top mount, lowest mount, or 3 door(french door)? Mount refers to the freezer location. If you're tall, select a side x side or lowest mount so that the refrigerator is at eye level. If you use the freezer quite a bit, select a top mount so that the freezer is at eye level. If you prefer both at eye level, select a side x side. Test them out to see what is most comfortable for you.

5. Water/Ice In The Door. Water and ice dispensers in the door are practically approved these days. A great convenience, but they will be the first things to break. You can't get an ice dispenser on a 3 door model (freezer drawer on bottom). Ice will not voyage upwards.

6. Color. Today's refrigerators come in all colors. Stainless is the most popular, but will cost you more.

I hope this has been helpful for you.

3 Ways to Find the Best Rated Refrigerators

If you're shopping for a new refrigerator, you'll quickly find that every salesperson has their own popular brand (often the one with the highest commission!) and it can be tough to get an unbiased opinion.

Fortunately, there are several places you can turn for objective reviews.

3 Door Refrigerator

1. Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports publishes a magazine and maintains a website where they present all kinds of separate products and services. One of the most common types of products they cover is kitchen appliances, refrigerators being one of them.

Most public libraries subscribe to the magazine, so you can often find new backissues there. If you go back several months, you're quite likely to find a suitable present of varied brands and models of refrigerators.

You can also check their website, which has a lot of data on it as well, to see what reviews they have posted there.

2. The Internet

There are fullness of websites that let population post reviews of varied products. Amazon.com is a good example of one of these. Most products they sell have reviews from population who have bought and used the products.

These reviews will give you a pretty good idea of the kind of results other population have had with a particular brand or model.

The key is to find sites and products that have a cheap estimate of reviews. If there is only one or two reviews, they could be biased one way or the other, but not an indication of the most common contact population have had.

3. population You Know

It never hurts to ask whatever you know what kind of contact they've had with the brand they have. This is particularly helpful if you know whatever who has had to have their fridge serviced or repaired recently, since they probably have a good idea of how easy that contact was.

If you know a undertaker of a package deal or person who has recently remodeled a kitchen or even built a house, they are also probably a good resource since they likely went straight through the study process themselves.

Refrigerator Appliance fix Help & Parts

Most readers are here because their Refrigerator is Broken or not working correctly! Let's not Waste time.

Top Mount & Side by Side Refrigerators

3 Door Refrigerator

Question: Do you have any lights in the Refrigerator? If yes, you have Power, go to Next Question.
Answer Is No: Check Bulbs First, Then Check your Outlet Where your Refrigerator is plugged in, then your Breaker Box. If you have your Refrigerator Plugged into a Gfi, see if you're Gfi is tripped.

Question: My Fresh Food Compartment is too warm but the freezer seems Fine.

Answers: There are some reasons this could happen. Most of the time it's a Defrost Problem.
(Note: just because you think your freezer is fine in might not be)

If you see Frost build up on the back wall of the freezer you might have a defrost problem. The Basic defrost ideas is: Your heater, your limiter, and timer if any of these fail you should get an even frost on the back wall (Most side by side Refrigerators and Top mount models )) Note: (depending where your evaporator is located). If you have no idea what I'm talking about you should call for a heal person. On the other hand if you get the Idea let me help a microscopic more! You can check your heater and limiter with a multimeter. You must have the component disconnected and the limiter has to stay cold to test it! The timer can't always be tested and comes in many new forms. It could be part of the main control, or an old mechanical timer or just a electronic timer.

Your Evaporator Fan Might not be working, This fan blows the cold air from your freezer to your Fresh food compartment. You can listen in your freezer area to hear if the fan is on. You might half to push the freezer door buttons in to launch the fan. If your motor is in defrost mode the fan will not come on, so if your fan is not on just check it in about 45 min and if it is still not coming on then your fan is probably bad.

If you have a electronic damper door it could be in the ended position, preventing the air flow from the freezer side to the fresh food side. This means your thermostat could be bad, a sensor or main control board could be bad.

Question: Fresh food side and Freezer are warmer

Your condenser coils could be dirty or Condenser Fan could be bad, this will cause your compressor to overheat and shut down causing your Refrigerator to quit cooling until the compressor has cooled down. In some refrigerators a good quick way to tell if your ideas is getting too hot is too feel the strip in the middle of the fresh food door and the freezer door, if this strip is hot your compressor could be overheating. Something you can do if you feel that town strip is hot :(( take a fan and put it facing the bottom of the refrigerator and see if that strip doesn't get cooler in about 45 min. This is only to help you till you get a heal person out to look at it.

There are many other reasons for this type of problem: Intermittent compressor start device, Intermittent Thermostat, Electronic control board problems, Electronic Thermostat problems.

Please call a appliance heal assistance firm to heal your appliance under any of these conditions.

One more foremost note to all: Freon does dissipate it can only leak. This means there has to be a hole! Filling your motor back up without fixing the hole will not fix your machine. It might run for a day a week maybe a month or a year but it is not fixed. This goes for refrigerators, freezers and Air conditioners. Don't let anything tell you it just needed a microscopic freon. Your leak might be small adequate for it to work for a month and then you loose all your food again!.

Question: My ice maker won't make any Ice

Answer: The ice ideas in most Refrigerators consists of: The Ice maker itself, the water inlet valve, The Dispenser System, and the lines that carry the water.

There are many dissimilar designs.

Example: Is your ice dispenser tray in your side by side door? If it is, you might have a emitter board that detects the level of your ice bucket. This emitter board ordinarily fails and needs supplanted to restore function to your ice maker. If you have this manufacture check the kick plate of the motor for the Tech sheet, This sheet will help you rule your problem.

A base qoute with most ice maker systems is the water valve has a slow leak and freezes the water inlet tube to the ice maker, causing the ice maker not to receive water. In this case you need to replace the water valve or the water valve plainly is bad. You will half to defrost the tube if it was freezing and make sure you replace the valve.

Have you check your water filter on your refrigerator? This also can cause a qoute with your ice maker and water dispenser.

Good luck with your repair

How To Fix A Noisy Refrigerator

I don't know about you but I tend to get irritated when I hear the loud whirring noise of appliances. This is why I check the appliances I buy first if it has flat suspension law or similar technologies to make sure that it will run smoothly. But I don't expect this highlight to last long. Refrigerators, for instance, get noisier as they get older.

If you are dealing with a noisy refrigerator right now, why don't you check out the following steps on how to fix it?

3 Door Refrigerator

1. The first thing you need to do is to check the fan. This is the usual origin of the noise. Get the by hand of your fridge and search the evaporator fan motor. It is regularly found at the back or the bottom of the fridge. Take off the cover and find out if the noise is arrival from the fan installed in it. Replace the fan with a new one.

2. If the noise is arrival from inside the fridge, it is probably caused by the defrost timer of the machine. Try locating the timer near the operate area. Have it substituted by a professional. A professional can install the new timer better.

3. Also check the back of the fridge. Check if the noise is arrival from the compressor. Take off the back panel of the fridge and check the compressor. If something is obstructing the compressor or the fan, Take off it. You might also need to turn the compressor or the fan at the back of the machine.

4. Try cleaning the coils. It could be the engine overworking itself in maintaining the right level of climatic characteristic inside. The sudden growth in climatic characteristic regularly happens when the coils cannot exhaust hot air easily. This happens if you do not regularly clean the back of the fridge. Use a shop vacuum to clean the coils.

5. You might also want to leave at least 3 inches of space in between the fridge and the wall of your kitchen. When installing, you need to give the engine ample space to breathe and exhaust hot air. This will prevent the interior of the engine from getting warmer. In doing so, it will stop forcing the motor to work harder.

Keeping your fridge clean prevents noise problems. Also avoid chance and closing the door of the engine frequently. I found out that the engine tends to produce a lot of noise when it is working harder to lower down the climatic characteristic inside. If you frequently open and close the door, the climatic characteristic inside will increase.

Why French Door Refrigerators Can Be a Wise selection

French Door Refrigerators are mad style - most population love the looks, that's for sure. But are they as practical, affordable, and usable as Side by Side Refrigerator Units? Just the facts, please.

In general, French Door Refrigerators start out in a miniature higher price range than your standard Side by Side unit. Depending on the thorough features, Side by Sides can get a lot more high-priced than French Doors, and vice-versa. But the general price range puts French Door Refrigerators about 20% higher where it concerns the buy price.

3 Door Refrigerator

French Door Refrigerators are usually more spacious than Side by Side units. Space in refrigerators is all the time expressed as square Cubic feet. You average Side by Side is about 21 square cubic feet of storage, whereas French Door models are usually about 25 square cubic feet, although they range up to 29 square cubic feet.

A big surmise that population love French Door Refrigerator Models is because the freezer section is located on the lowest of the unit, while the refrigerator section is up top. This saves a lot stress on the back, since most of the time population are reaching for the refrigerator, and not the freezer.

French Door Refrigerator also tend to offer more door gallon storage than Side by Sides. Door gallon storage is another space recovery feature which allows you to store your big liquid containers, such as a gallon of milk, or 2 liter bottles of soda, right on the door. This frees up the storage space in the main unit.

In a lot of ways then, both ergonomically and spatially, French Door Refrigerators do more than just out-style Side by Side refrigerators. They positively can be a practical and wise choice. Now that that's settled, let's talk a miniature bit about important features in today's French Door models.

Features:

Temperature control System: This is one of the most important features to look at when profiling any refrigerator. Today's standards usually involve a climatic characteristic control principles which has at least a integrate of dissimilar sensors for monitoring dissimilar parts of the refrigerator. The surmise for this is that dissimilar foods need dissimilar settings in order to stay fresh the longest. Also having a duel evaporator system, one for the freezer, and one for the refrigerator, helps to reduce any mixing of odors from the freezer unit into the refrigerator unit.

Thru the Door Ice and Water: This is positively a user preference. While it might seem like this sort of thing should be standard, the truth is that a lot of population just don't want it, for a whole of reasons. Obviously there is a trade off of storage space for the convenience of having the thru the door feature. Also the capacity of the ice maker in a thru the door model is going to be less than if the ice maker was stored totally inside the freezer. So it just comes to a user's needs.

Water Filtration with Alert Light: Yes this is a recommended feature. Having clean water in your French Door Refrigerator is the healthy choice, and yes there are systems that do not have the light which tells you when its time to change the water filter. Who wants to guess when its time to change the filter? Make sure it has the alert light....

Energy Star Compliant: energy Star yielding is all the rage today in refrigerators. Its nice to have a refrigerator that is rated to be efficient energy-wise, but don't expect to retire off the every year savings on the power costs! If everything else was equal in the middle of two models, I'd go with the one that had the good energy rating.

Child Locks: Child Locks for some surmise are usually gift only in very high priced models of refrigerators. There are some exceptions to this, but they are hard to find. This is kind of sad in a way, because I'm sure a lot of parents would like an affordable refrigerator with child locks in place.

These are just some of the most important considerations to make before deciding which model of French Door refrigerator is best for you. Its also all the time wise to check out the user ratings on exact models in order to see what the population are saying about it.

Clean the Ice and Water Dispenser on a Refrigerator Door

The ice and water dispenser on a refrigerator door is a very nice convenience. Over time, the ice and water outlets and the stockroom will get dirty and full of germs. The water stockroom on a refrigerator should be cleaned regularly to keep it clean and germ free. Cleaning the ice and water outlets should also be cleaned to insure it is clean and safe to dispense form. If the water stockroom is allowed stay wet and dirty, it can look and smell terrible. A itsybitsy skill is needed to clean the outlets and the reservoir. Only safe cleaners should be used to clean the ice and water dispensing parts.

Gather the important supplies and get cleaning. White vinegar, a 1 cup measuring cup, a screwdriver, some gray tape and an old toothbrush should get the job done.

3 Door Refrigerator

The very first thing to do is unplug the refrigerator and turn the water contribute to the refrigerator to the off position. Unscrew the screw that is retention the copper water contribute tube in place. Slide the copper tube out of position.

Holding the tube upright, pour about 3 cups of vinegar into the tube. Hold the tube over the stockroom to catch any overflow. Leave the vinegar sit for 5 minutes in the tube and the reservoir.

Using grey tape, attach the copper tube to the back of the refrigerator to keep the vinegar draining down towards into reservoir.

Empty the ice dispenser by depressing the ice dispenser lever to expel all of the ice. Let about half of the vinegar flow through to flush out any dirt.

Next, depress the water lever on the water dispenser. This will allow the vinegar to run through the water contribute pipes and tubes getting a faultless cleaning. Keep the button pressed until all the vinegar has ran through into the reservoir. If the stockroom is small, empty it as it gets full.

Dip a toothbrush into the vinegar in the reservoir. Scrub the spouts that the ice and water flows through with the old toothbrush. Continue scrubbing with the toothbrush. Be sure to clean the entire ice and water dispensing center with vinegar. Pay close attentiveness to the corners of the reservoir.

Remove the stockroom tub. Rinse well in the sink with warm water. Replace.

Place the copper tubing back in its space. If the refrigerator was moved, return it to position. Turn the water contribute back on. Run fresh water through the ice and water spouts for a few minutes to rinse all vinegar out.

Your power effective Refrigerator

Having an vigor productive refrigerator is easy to achieve. Refrigerators are expensive and it is beyond the means of most of us to simply replace our current one with a newer model sporting more vigor efficiency stars.

Luckily there are two simple steps we can take to make sure that our current refrigerator is as vigor productive as possible. These steps will cost you limited or no money and will furnish you with some recovery on your electricity bill.

3 Door Refrigerator

1. Keep it full.

The first and easiest step is to ensure that the refrigerator is as full as possible. This initially seems counter-intuitive. However, every time the refrigerator is opened all the cold air in it falls out of it towards the floor and it is replaced with warmer air from the room.

This means that the temperature inside the refrigerator rises sharply and it has to work extra hard to cool the new air. You will have heard the refrigerator start humming after you have opened it; this is the conjecture why.

For every cold, space occupying object in the refrigerator there is less cold air to be lost when the door is opened. So putting the potatoes in the fridge rather than in the cupboard will help sell out the vigor cost of running the machine. The same goes for fruit, drinks and so on. While these objects take a while to be cooled, this is of course offset by the vigor you save by not losing extra cool air each time the door is opened. Even if you do not usually drink cold water, placing full bottles of water inside the refrigerator when there is spare space will lighten the load on your electricity bill.

2. Keep the seals in good condition.

Regular cleaning of the seals colse to the door and the face they come into sense with when the door is finished will make sure that as limited cold air is escaping as possible. One tiny leak can create a lot more work for the refrigerator, and will also add to your power bill.

These steps won't turn your old appliance into a five star vigor productive refrigerator, but they will ensure you are getting the best efficiency out of the motor as possible. Get more vigor recovery tips and information on solar vigor and related topics at my website, Green Planet Solar Energy.
